Intermodal Policy Changes on
Toxic/Poison Inhalation Hazardous Commodities
Effective April 1, 2007

To further improve the safety and security of the shipments we handle, BNSF is making changes to the Intermodal policy covering toxic/poison inhalation hazardous chemicals, limiting the weight of the chemicals that can be shipped.

Effective April 1, 2007, BNSF will only accept Intermodal shipments of toxic/poison inhalation hazardous (TIH/PIH) chemicals that are 1,000 pounds or less per shipment. BNSF will not accept these chemicals in quantities greater than 1,000 pounds per shipment.

Customers can assist us in addressing the safety issues associated with these shipments by providing complete shipping instructions, adhering to required placarding and other hazardous regulations, and by properly blocking and bracing the contents in the container or trailer, as outlined in the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide. For blocking and bracing assistance, please contact your LARS Representative.

If you have questions regarding this new policy, please contact your Intermodal Sales Representative at 888-428-2673. Your business is important to us. Thank you again for choosing BNSF as your transportation provider.
